We at MARTS understand that our children’s educational lives have become very much about satisfying the numbers. The emphasis in our society upon the traditional subjects – math, science, and English – and our attempts to improve our student’s understanding of them, have forced other subjects out of schools and out of our children’s lives. But a well rounded, empowering education is all inclusive; it does not exclude any of the subjects. No time is taken out of our children’s busy education for creativity, leaving a serious hole in their education and in their lives. Children must be given ample opportunity to learn, grow, experience, share, form friendships, creative, and become self-aware. MARTS’ business will be the business of providing that time and that flexibility, every day, for students to experience these things.

Although this is problem shared throughout the nation, Meriden students are particularly at risk in a traditional educational setting. We can not ignore the fact that in the more wealthy areas of the state, arts education is able to be given much greater funding and support, leaving Meriden arts education lacking in its ability to reach students. We wish to help reach those students whom the school’s arts education can not reach, reasons not withstanding, and give them the best educational experience possible. MARTS welcomes all students to come and share in our passion for the arts. It is our sincere hope that studies in music, art, and dance will brighten and enrich your lives as it has ours.
